Workshop on Regional Environmental Systems Interactions was held at Northeast Institute of Geography and Agrecology, (NEIGAE), Chinese Academy of Sciences, (CAS) on Aug. 18-20 in Changchun.
The purposes of this workshop are two-fold: 1) Discuss potential collaborations on sciences and research regarding regional environmental systems interactions and its impact on sustainable economic and societal development of Northeastern China; 2) Explore the feasibility for organizing an international workshop to coordinate a broad effort on promoting and accelerating Research & Development (R&D) including governmental decision support study activities.
Professor Pal Arya, from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, USA, Dr. Julian XL Wang, from NOAA Air Resources Laboratory, Silver Spring, Dr. Quansong Tong, from NOAA Air Resources Laboratory, Silver Spring, Dr. Shaocai Yu, from US Environmental Protection Agency, Professor Yuriy Kravchenko from Agricultural University of Ukraine, Professor Haidong Kan, from Fudan University, and Dr.Ping Liu, from Shanghai JiaoTong University and above 30 scientists from NEIGAE attended the workshop. These experts presented their works on climate change, air pollution and regional haze, human health, and the feedbacks among these processes.
Director He Xingyuan briefed about the general cooperation between NEIGAE and those US research institute and universities, especially the cooperation on atmospheric system, agriculture and ecosystems area. He also proposed that NEIGAR and those various foreign Laboratories should positively explore the possibility to establish appropriate mechanisms and financing channels to support the substantial cooperation between scientists from NEIGAE and the US group.
