WWF international project

  Assessment of Free-flowing River ecosystem services values and threats

  faced in Heilong River Basin

  PI: JIANG Ming

  Objectives:

  • To understand the status of freshwater ecosystem services: flood regulation, water self-purification, nutrient matter cycle, carbon storage, microclimate regulation etc. in the study area (Main stem of Heilong River and its main tributaries, Sanjiang plain, Dalai lake)

  • Clarify the impacts of water infrastructures on freshwater ecosystem.

  • Develop rational suggestions for designing and building water infrastructures, based on study of freshwater ecosystem services.

  

  Activities

  • Collect information of freshwater ecosystem services in study area (Main stem of Heilong River and its main tributaries, Sanjiang plain, Dalai lake)

  • Assess the threats to freshwater ecosystem services in study area (Main stem of Heilong River and its main tributaries, Sanjiang plain, Dalai lake).

  • Develop rational suggestions for designing and building water infrastructures, based on study of freshwater ecosystem services.

  

  Output

  • Report of threats to freshwater ecosystem services and its values in study area (Main stem of Heilong River and its main tributaries, Sanjiang plain, Dalai lake).

  • Rational suggestions for designing and building water infrastructures, based on study of freshwater ecosystem services.
